Our Story: Charity Truly Begins at Home

The Founder.

Sri Bala-Krishna Charitable Trust was established in 2013 in Bengaluru by SRI. Prabhakar Balakrishna. As a former lecturer/professor at the Department of Technical Education of The Government of Karnataka, the accessibility to education for students of all age groups was a driving force in this endeavour. Education was always given the highest importance within his parents and his family.

Witnessing numerous impoverished children dropping out of schools to support their families made him feel that this has to change. He wanted each one of them to have the same opportunities he was given as child. To provide a better future for such children, he formed this Trust with the help of his family and friends.

The Vision.

  • To provide basic necessities for the underprivileged children and thus enable them to have a successful and fulfilling life

  • To help them lead a life that is devoid of gender, caste and religious discrimination and provide equal opportunities to everyone

  • To provide job opportunities to marginalized people to enable them shape their future as well as their children.

The Premises: A Heritage House

Located at 66 Gover Road, Cox Town, Bengaluru, the premises of Sri Bala-Krishna Charitable Trust has a rich history. Built in the year 1926, the house has witnessed decades of revolutionary changes. In 1939, Nehru Hindi Patashala, a school for teaching Hindi and Sanskrit was established by Sri. Prabhakar’s parents, Late Sri. Balakrishna Mudaliar and Late Smt. Krishnaveni Balakrishna, were ardent supporters of arts and science, encouraging their children to pursue the same. To honour their memory and legacy, their home was the ideal place to establish the Trust. The original construction still stands today in all its glory.
